4-Part WIP Special// Part Two: Current Project Goals

Welcome to week two, y'all! If you missed last week's post, all about Camp goals, then you can go check it out here

This week, we're focusing on current writing goals that we're maybe not working on during Camp.

~What projects are you working on in addition to Camp NaNo during April?~

I'm working on cleaning up The Dawn of a Hero (from here on known as tDoaH) and my rewrite of The Fall of Chemmit (tFoC).

~Give us some more info on these other projects - maybe a synopsis or an aesthetic~

While I'm not going to share either of those things, I'll give you a little information about both.

TDoaH is the first book in The Reylance trilogy. It's the closest book I have to being ready for publication. It's currently waiting in cue for yet another round of revisions, which I hope to start in May.

TFoC is the second book in said trilogy. I wrote the first draft about 7 years ago in three composition notebooks. Needless to say, it needs a lot of work to get it cleaned up. The first step was to do a complete rewrite of the whole thing. While the first draft isn't in as bad of shape as tDoaH's first draft, it still isn't where I want it.

This new version is capturing my heart and soul. The emotion is high with this one, y'all. I even made myself almost cry real tears.

~Which project is grabbing at your attention the most? Why?~

Between these two, I can't really decide. They're kind of taking their turns, as was the plan from the beginning of the year.

TDoaH is the closest to being polished, so I'm spending a lot of time on it. But tFoC is such a beautiful story, so I do love spending time on that one as well.

~Do you have any plans for how you’re going to finish these projects on the side?~

I'm not necessarily working on them during Camp. I set them aside for this month, as I'm not going to be able to focus on them that well. But once Camp is over, I plan to dive back into revisions for tDoaH. Depending on how long that takes, I might finish up my rewrite as well.

~If you had to set all projects aside and only work on one, which would it be?~

TDoaH. As I said earlier, I'm getting really close to polishing it up and start querying it. It makes sense to spend the larger portion of my time focused on getting it to be the best it can be.

~What is the next step for each of these projects (drafting, editing, aesthetic creation, beta reading, etc.?)~

After I finish another round of edits for tDoaH, I'm not 100% sure what the next step will be. I hope to pitch it at Realm Makers (I am going, btw!!! EEEP!). But I'd also like to send it to an editor. So I think what I'll do is pitch it. If no one takes it, then I'll send it to an editor. If someone does bite, then yay! We'll go from there.

For tFoC, I think I'll probably do a round of edits, then send it to my alpha to read through (look out, Jules! Or look out me, more like it! She's probably going to kill me). After that, I'll start delving into the revision process. Hopefully the tricks I've learned with tDoaH will help me streamline that process.

~Share a snippet from these projects~

~What’s your favorite thing about each of these other projects?~

The answer is the same for both: the heart and soul. I love the huge hearts of each of my characters. The things they learn. The encouragement they share. The love they have for each other. I love it all.

~Do you have any non-writing goals to try to meet while doing Camp NaNo?~

Survive what should be the last semester of college (Lord willing). Classes are in full-swing now (hence the somewhat small Camp goal). I'm really hoping I can stay focused and get this done.

~Do these non-writing goals come before or after Camp according to importance?~

Yeah, it does. The sooner I can finish school up, the sooner I can move on to the next phase in life. And, believe me, I'm ready.

That's all for this week! I hope y'all enjoyed.

As always, make sure you check out the rest of the participants' posts. They're bound to have lots of awesome stuff going on!

Onto y'all! If you could only focus on one project, what would it be and why? What steps are you taking to reach your goals? Let me know down below!

  1. Haha, I think it's so funny you aren't sharing snippets ... sometimes people's posts are overwhelmed with them ;D Looks like you're busy .... and yay for the last semester!

    1. LOL! I just don't really have any for this month. I mean, most of my projects are outlines. What kind of snippet would I be sharing?

Thanks. I hope it's the last semester. At least, I hope it's close to the finish line.

  2. No fair you not sharing any synopsi, aesthetics, or snippets, Sarah!! *pouts*

But seriously, I hope that tDoaH gets a good bite at Realm Makers, and that you finish college strong!

    1. LOL! I just don't have any! It's all outlines and stuff! All boring things that no one wants to hear about.

Thanks! I hope it does too. I'm really hoping to work hard on getting a good pitch together. And yes! I'm so done with college. Can't wait for it to be over!

  3. Good luck at pitching at RM, and with finishing all your other writing projects!

(And yay, someone else who didn’t post snippets for this round! ;) )

    1. Thanks! I hope it goes well. I'm already a bit nervous, but I think it will be fine.

LOL! Yes! I've got nothin', folks! Absolutely nothing.

  4. I hope pitching goes well for you! As well as editing :) You can totally do this!

We're gonna have the BEST pitches EVER
