Book Haul + #21for21

Last Friday I went to my library's annual used book sale. They have really great prices on books and you never know what you might find. So, of course, I've got to go. I think I purchased twelve books (not all of them are shown), plus two DVDs. Cost me $20. And that's with most of my books being hardbacks. So anyway, here's what I picked up.

Redwall: Taggerung, Triss, Mariel of Redwall, Loamhedge, and The Legend of Luke

I honestly feel bad for anyone who went after my brother and I. If they were looking for Redwall books, they were out of luck. We snatched up every single nice copy we could find. There was one nice copy of Redwall itself, but it didn't match the rest of the books. I already have a mixed collection now, which drives me a bit crazy, but with the way the Redwall series ended up, it's the best I can do.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Ultimate Guide

This is one of those books where I couldn't care one way or another about whether I got it or not. But since they had it and it was a good price, I picked it up.

Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World

Words cannot begin to express how excited I was and how embarrassed Joe was when I picked up this book. I mean, it's a book about a library cat. A LIBRARY CAT! His full name is Dewey Readmore Books. I can't even. *leaves to geek out over the adorableness* I honestly just don't see this going badly at all. And, what's even better is I can claim it's author research because I have a library cat in one of my novels! #winwin

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

This was a random grab. They had it. We didn't own it on DVD. So we bought it. It's called math, people.

Creating The Lord of the Rings Symphony

I didn't know this existed, yet here it is! So I picked it up. Because LotR+music=must have

As I said before, I picked up a few other books, but I'm not going to show them here.

And now onto the #21for21 part. What is this, you ask? Over the past few years, I've struggled with reading. I either didn't find the time or I had a hard time reading in general. My mind mixes up a lot of the words and such, so it made reading a really frustrating process. But this year I'm determined to read more and made the goal to read 21 books because I turned 21. I figured it was an easy goal to reach. Thus #21for21 was born. I'll probably change it if I manage to go over my book count. That would be nice!

Now you get to hear about what I've read so far!

How Can I Cultivate Private Prayer by Joel Beeke

I love Beeke's preaching, so I was very excited when I started this little booklet a few weeks ago. I wasn't disappointed. I recommend that everyone pick up this book, regardless of where you think you are in your prayer life. It'll point out places that could use improvement. It's definitely a great Lord's Day read.

The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

I haven't actually finished this book, but I'm fairly close to the end. I'm embarrassed to say that it sat on the shelf for two years before I cracked it open. Jules would email me from time to time to ask if I'd read it yet and I'd always answer with no. But now that's no longer the case! I'm enjoying it so far and I'm looking forward to reading the next books in the series.

Spinner of Secrets by Annie Twitchell

I got this novella as a free ebook a while ago when she had a sale going. I finally got around to reading it while I was waiting for my babysitting job to start. I thought it was pretty good, though things were a bit fast paced and some of the details confused me a little. She's on the GTW Community FB Group, so I thought it would be nice to read something from our little realm.

Now you know what sort of reading material I've picked up recently and what kinds of things I've read so far! I'm going to try to do some more of these #21for21posts every few months (because it really does take me a long time to read things). It helps me with accountability.

On to y'all! What sorts of books have you picked up recently? What kinds of reading goals do you set for yourself (or do you not need any)?

  1. BOOOOKKKKKSSSSSSS #canthavetoomanybooks #andweareproofofthat #camehomewith3boxes #justgotnewbookshelves

So yeah, obviously, I have picked up a number of new books. I spent the first half of this year not reading anything, so this last few months I've decided to change that and read a bunch. No goals, just trying to always have something to read.

I enjoy Joel Beeke as well. I have his book on Gospel Conversation on my TBR. And The Goose Girl. YES.

    1. Nope, you can never have too many books!

That's still a really great goal to have! Always having something to read is a positive step forward!

  2. I would only frustrate myself if I set a goal because life right now only lets me read at certain times. I'm wanting to read more books about our nation's history, though. For fiction, I'm really into the Lunar Chronicles right now. I'm reading Heartless, which is technically a standalone, but it is AMAZING! Its also based in fall time, so its perfect for a fall read.

Good luck with your goal! Are you on Goodreads? You can set up a goal counter on there for how many books you want to read in 2017. The website's pretty fun. Its kind of like Facebook, but with actual books.

    1. I am on Goodreads, but I haven't done much with it. I think I might have made a goal counter, though. I'm not sure.

  4. Happy 21st birthday, Sarah!
Expanding your library is an important aspect of a writer's life, and reading definitely improves your writing ability. Goose Girl was a very good book; read it to the end! I hope you complete your #21FOR21 challenge.

THE GOOSE GIRL. o.o You have a hardcover! It's so gorgeous! I haven't been able to find a hardcover of that version yet, so I'm a bit jealous. xD

    1. Thank you!

I'm obsessed with hardbacks, so I try to find as many of my books in HB as I can. I think the link that I posted takes you to a HB version, but I'm not 100% sure.
