February Wrap-Up/March Goals

Welcome to March, y'all! I can't believe another month has come and gone. Not much has happened over the past month. I (sort of) completed most of my goals for February, though I had to change some of them a bit.

~Writing~

1. I almost finished my read-through of The Dawn of a Hero. I made lots of notes, mostly about the sheer lack of action tags (or poorly used ones). I guess I know what my biggest problem is right now. I decided to leave whatever's left alone for now because I burned out pretty bad at the end of the month. I guess it's time for a creative recharge!

2. I somehow managed to figure out some of my restructure for The Fall of Chemmit. Not enough, but at least enough to start. Seeing as I won't get to my rewrite this month, I'm not too worried about it. I'll probably continue working on this on and off for the next few months.

3. I also wrote two new scenes for tDoaH! Each time I go through, I find new things to do. Writing new scenes is a huge part of that. So even though I didn't manage to finish my read-through, I'm happy I was able to write these scenes.

4. We also finished brainstorming the questions for the 5-Part Writing Special! As you already know, those posts will come out on the Fridays during this month (seeing as the first one already went up). I'm featuring The Herbalist's War this time around. I'm really looking forward to sharing this special story with y'all!

~Reading~

I read four books this month.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. This was a school book. Despite my apprehension, it wasn't terrible. You can read my GR review of it here.<- If you follow this link, let me know. I've never linked to a GR review before, so I'm not sure if it's going to the right place.

Cinder by Marissa Meyers. After much prompting by y'all, I finally got it out of the library (finally, they're good for something!). I really loved it. I liked that there wasn't anything trashy in it, so that was nice. So thank you all for suggesting it.

DragonQuest by Donita K. Paul. A lovely reread for me. I love this series sooooo much. Kale is so sweet and hilarious and this is the first book with Bardon in it. Every time his name is mentioned, I'm like *fangirl squeal* "BARDON!"

Living the Cross Centered Life by C.J. Mahaney. This book is the devotional for our Belize missions team. After years of overcoming the effects of legalism in my spiritual life, this was a timely book to read. Everyone (and I mean everyone) should read this little book. It's not long, but it's packed with wonderful truths for the everyday life.

All in all, February was a great month for reading! I kind of surprised myself.

Aside from surviving the beginning of spring (allergies are real, my friends), I only have a few goals.

1. I'd really love to finish draft four this month so I can focus on finishing my NaNo novel during Camp. Seeing as I didn't finish my read-through this past month, I don't know if I'll be able to do this, but I'll give it my best shot.

2. If I finish it, I'll send it over to my alpha (aka Jules) for a read-through/critique. #excited #nervous Though, seriously, it'll be in good hands. She's so awesome at that kind of thing. Kind and gentle, but pointed. Exactly what someone needs in a critique partner. I can't wait to see what sorts of things I get to do to clean this story up even more!

3. Gear up for Camp NaNo!!! I'm so excited, y'all! Can't wait.

4. Read 4-5 books. I have one planned for the first week, but we'll see what else I can finish the month.

Anyway, that's what I'm up to right now! Just as a note, I won't be able to read or respond to y'all's comments for a while. I won't be able to read your posts either. Don't panic, though! I have several posts scheduled to come out while I'm gone and I'll be back soon. I'll do my best to reply to all of your comments then (though I can't promise to be able to read all of your posts. I'll do my best). Don't blow up the blogosphere while I'm gone, okay?

What are some of your goals for this month? What were you able to accomplish last month? Do you get spring allergies (please say yes!)? I'd love to celebrate (or commiserate) with you!

  1. Sounds like you had an awesome month!

Your review link just takes me to the page for Frankeinstein--like the main page--so what you want to do is find your review, click "view" at the bottom (I think that's what it says) and that'll take you to a page that has nothing on it besides your review. Then you copy and paste /that/ link into Blogger, and that should bring you where you want it.

Can't wait to hear more about Herbalist's War!

    1. Ugh, yes! It's not fun.

It's an okay book. I found the premise really interesting, but I'm not sure if I'd recommend it to anyone or not.

  3. Ugh. Allergies. Yes, I get those early spring allergies...and winter allergies too. Usually during summer and fall, I'm okay but winter/spring....it's BAD, particularly in the morning. Yuck.

February was a rather crazy month, and March has been even CRAZIER. I'm still playing catch-up with RW and LIFE (I hate catch-up...nasty game).

Speaking of - I'm hoping to get an email chain started between RW and the OotP so we can work out the details of our collab in the next couple of months. It seems like forever, but we got slammed with a lot of "business" in January, and we are STILL catching up....

    Awesome post, Sarah!!

    1. Yes, they're gross. I can't stand them, but it's something I get to deal with.

Oh yay! I'll look for your email soon. I totally understand getting slammed. It's been a crazy past few months here too.

  4. The plague of allergies is annoying. I'm dealing with it today. Not fun. I don't like how it takes all of my energy away. :/ Hopefully you're feeling better now. <3

Great post. I'm glad you achieved your goals. Have an awesome March!! <3
