About My Books

For all who are curious minds, here is a list of my novels to date, the stories behind their inception, and their progress. Enjoy!

The Dawn of a Hero (book one of the Reylance Trilogy)
Fantasy novel, 7th draft, WIP, querying

This was my first real book. I wrote the first draft in a composition notebook when I was twelve or thirteen. It was poorly written, silly, and definitely too short to be a novel. After many years of trying to edit it and getting nowhere, I determined the problem: the POV was wrong. So I decided to change it up a bit and rewrite the entire story in 2016. Several months later, the story was much longer, better written, and, most importantly, the POV was correct.

The Fall of Chemmit (book two of the Reylance Trilogy)
Fantasy novel, 2nd draft, edits

This book took me two and a half years to write (I hand wrote it). This past year (2019) I rewrote the entire thing. This year I plan to really dive into edits to make the story even better!

The Rise of the Prisoner (book three of the Reylance Trilogy)
Fantasy novel, 2nd draft, awaiting editing

This is the first book I ever wrote during NaNoWriMo. I had just finished tFoC, I think, in September of 2014 or something and I really wanted to finish the series. I'd dreamt of this story for years and I knew every detail about it (or most of the big ones, anyway). I wanted to see it on paper. I'd thought about doing NaNo for several years, but I was too intimidated. But I signed up on a whim and didn't regret it. A little over a month later I had a complete series.

Midnight's Call (book one of the Finding Home Trilogy)
Fantasy novel, first draft, awaiting editing

I came up with this idea while I wrote tRotP. It's a sequel trilogy to the Reylance Trilogy. Anyway, after ditching a different series, I started this book during the July Camp NaNo of 2015. I finished it in the first half of October.

Starlight's Hope (book two of the Finding Home Trilogy)
Fantasy novel, first draft, awaiting editing

Funny story about this one. As I stated above, I finished MC in October. Well, I had this goal that I wanted to finish the entire trilogy by the end of the year, with my NaNoWriMo project being the last book. So... I wrote this bad boy in two weeks. Yes, I said two weeks! Not the greatest idea. But I did it and finished it October of 2015. I know I'll have a ton of editing to do when I get around to it.

Sunlight's Rise (book three of the Finding Home Trilogy)
Fantasy novel, first draft, awaiting editing

Immediately following my crazed I-can-write-a-novel-in-two-weeks moment, I wrote this one in a little over a month. So by the end of 2015, I had two trilogies under my belt.

The Herbalist's War (a standalone novel)
Dystopian, first draft, awaiting editing

I came up with this idea during NaNo 2015. I was researching 'career' options for myself, including being an herbalist. I sent the raw idea to my best friend (since I always do that) and she replied back with "That's a 100% Sarah Rodecker story!" After a year of dreaming about this novel, writing different snippets, and researching the locations, I couldn't wait to dive into it during the next NaNo. Well, seeing as it's a standalone novel, it wasn't completed after the 50k goal. So I set it aside for a few months while I focused on edits. Then I went full speed ahead and finished it during the April Camp 2017.

Ships, Secrets, and Survivors (book one of the Pirate Hunter Chronicles)
Pirate fantasy, Published

This is a book my best friend and I are co-authoring. We combined a few ideas we had laying around and made one epic story idea! You can purchase on Amazon or on our website, as well as add it on Goodreads.

Sins, Sons, and Siren Songs (book two of the Pirate Hunter Chronicles)
Pirate fantasy, first draft, awaiting edits

The second book in our co-authored series. My personal favorite, so far. I simply cannot wait until we're able to reveal more about this one!!

Rumors (book three of the Pirate Hunter Chronicles)
Pirate Fantasy, first draft, currently nearing completion

The third book in the co-authored series. Such a fun book and I can't wait until people get to read it!!

Simon Says (book one of the Monsters of Our Making series)
Dystopian, first draft, awaiting edits

This is possibly one of my favorite stories. It touches on different aspects of grief and mental illness, helping me come to terms with the battles I face. I can't wait until this one is in the world. It was originally supposed to be a standalone, but other story ideas came flying my way and it became part of a series of companion novels.

The Gingerhaired Girl (book two of the Monsters of Our Making series)
Dystopian, first draft, awaiting edits

This book is inspired by "The Gingerbread Man". It's a dystopian thriller about a serial killer, set in the same world as Simon Says

The Last of the Lambs (book three of the Monsters of Our Making series)
Dystopian, first draft, awaiting completion

This book is inspired loosely by Mary Had a Little Lamb. It is set in South Africa, around the same time as Simon Says and The Gingerhaired Girl.

So these are the stories that I've completed and have confidence that I'll be able to clean them up enough to publish at some point. If you have any questions concerning them, let me know! I'd be happy to fangirl over my stories, though I refuse to hand out any spoilers. That won't be happening. I'm not a mean author.
