April Wrap-Up/May Goals

*sniff* Camp's over, y'all. A month of mad writing has passed. So, you can guess what this wrap-up will consist of! That's right, all about how I missed my goal how I #won this month.

Also, I do apologize for disappearing for the past two weeks. I hit a low point and had a hard time pushing through. Blogging had to go during the time in order for me to keep my sanity and heal fully. But it gave me a chance to refocus and settle on a new blogging schedule! Anyway, onto the wrap-up.

~Writing~

1. Write for 40 hours. I wrote for 26/40 hours. So yes, I technically didn't meet my goal, but I still had an amazingly productive month thanks to Camp!

2. Finish draft four of The Dawn of a Hero. I worked hard on the edits for The Dawn of a Hero draft four (even though I have very little to show for it), but I didn't finish my draft. I'm getting close, though.

3. Finish NaNoWriMo novel. I finished my NaNoWriMo novel! #squee My eighth novel so far.

4. Outline The Fall of Chemmit rewrite and NaNoWriMo 2018 novel. I actually outlined three stories. One is for the rewrite, one is for my (hopeful) NaNoWriMo novel, and the other is a short story that I want to write soon. So that's extra work completed!

So anyway, Camp was great! I was able to crush several of my goals and make great progress on others. With each time I participate in Camp NaNo, I'm learning what winning really means. It has nothing to do with the certificate at the end (though it's awesome), but rather the hard work and dedication that you pour into your craft.

So while I didn't reach 40 hours of writing, the 26 hours that I did complete were productive, well filled, and not wasted. I worked hard. I won. Yay me!

~Reading~

Reading didn't really happen this month. I did read a bit more of The Hobbit, and I browsed through a few other books, but I didn't read anything major. I'm hoping to fix that this month now that Camp is over and I need an extra dose of creative recharging.

1. Finish draft four of The Dawn of a Hero. Yes, I realize that I've had this as a goal for the past three months, but whatever. I still want it and I'm still working towards that goal. I'm hoping to finish on the 11th. So yay, I'm close!!! I love how my little baby is growing up.

2. Write at least the first draft of my short story. It's been a while since I've written a short story so this will be interesting. I really need to brainstorm some worldbuilding for it before I start (not mention that I need to come up with names for the characters). But yeah, I should be able to knock this out pretty quickly.

3. Do the 100-4-100 challenge. GTW is hosting another 100-4-100 challenge starting on the 15th. I'll probably participate in it again. I'm not sure which project I'll use for it, but whatever it is, it'll hopefully help me make some progress on it.

4. Tackle more books on my TBR. I'd like to do more reading this month to refill my creative well. I might even do mini reviews for my wrap-ups. I've seen them around the blogosphere and I love them!

Also, Jules and I are planning on working through the History of Middle Earth books (slowly) in celebration of me completing my set. We plan to start with The Book of Lost Tales Part One and work through them one at a time. We'll see how that goes.

I mean, aren't they lovely?
5. Plan blogoversary things. Can you believe that it's almost been a year already?! So this is where I'm looking for suggestions. What sorts of things do you like to see in blogoversary posts? What's something you'd love to see?

Anyway, that's what I've accomplished in the past month and my hopes and dreams for this coming month. I hope y'all have a marvelous May!

What goals do you have? What books are you planning to read? If you participated in Camp, what are some of the ways that you won? Let's celebrate!!!!

  2. I'm really going to enjoy this Tolkien read-through!! I'm still tackling the introduction for The Book of Lost Tales, but it's already inspired me to work on the worldbuilding for Betrayal and Bravery. I mean, Tolkien was a master at that.

And the short story...these are gonna be GREAT!!!!

Also, I know I keep saying this, but your pictures are amazing. Seriously.

    1. Yeah, it's going to be totally fun. I forgot how much I liked the Cottage of Lost Play, so I'm loving going back through it.

IKR!! I can't wait to write it. It's going to be fun.

Thanks. For the monthly posts, I usually just try to use whatever's in bloom at the time. That makes it nice and pretty. Throw in some pens and a cup of tea and you've got a winner.

    1. Thanks! I like outlining books. It helps me keep track of everything. I usually make an outline for each of my drafts.

I'm hoping it's a profitable experience. I know I enjoyed the beginning of it, so hopefully the rest will be just as good.

  6. Well done, Sarah! It sounds like you had an extremely productive April, and May will be even better, I'm sure! :] I love seeing other writer's goals---it always serves to encourage and inspire me in my own.

Camp was a blast! This was the first time I'd participated, and I loved it. I did manage to make my goal, but only after adjusting it slightly, and then cramming the last 2.5 hours into one night. I crawled into bed at midnight, and I NEVER do that... O__O But it was great! I'm now further along in my story than I was at the start, although I didn't really finish the draft as I would've liked. But I've got a game plan now!

WOW!! Reading through the History of Middle Earth sounds fantastic! Oddly enough, as much of a fan as I am of Tolkien, I hadn't seen those books yet. The Silmarillion is next on my list of his books to read. Are those a compilation of stories, like of Beren & Luthien and such? MUST LOOK THEM UP

Best wishes to you for May! :D

    1. Thanks!! I love seeing others having big goals too! It makes me encouraged to push myself harder.

It's so much fun. I like Camp more than NaNo proper, I think. It's much more relaxed and personalized.

Yes! I'm excited. I finally finished my collection (they were expensive and hard to find in the versions that I wanted). It took me years, but it's done now. They're basically a behind-the-scenes look at how Tolkien created Middle Earth and its history.

I highly recommend reading The Silmarillion. It's a slower read, but it is really good.

  7. Hey, you persevered and you got a good Camp out of it!

A Tolkien read along? Fun! Can't wait!

Oh gosh, so many people do different things: AMA's, Would You Rathers, a weeks worth of celebrations....I'm open to anything :).

    Great post, Sarah!

    1. Yes, I totally did! I'm really proud of the work I accomplished. Now on to finish this draft!

It's gonna take us a while, but it's going to be fun! I'm really excited to delve into these book.

Awesome suggestions! I'll have to think about what I'd like to do most.
